Our Methods

At Shires we believe that there is a variety of ways to train your dog. But remember, you are also there to be trained!

We do not believe in ANY harsh treatment in ANY way for ANY reason to get a dog to do want you want. We do not tolerate it.

We begin with advising you which collar and lead to use for your particular breed, size, age and temperment of dog. We have a selection of different equipment for you to see, try and if you wish buy. These include flat collars, half-check collars, full check collars, nylon leads, utility leads, haltis, etc. All of these items are beneficial if used in the correct way. We will advise you on how to use them.

There are many ways in which you can train a dog. It depends on what you are trying to achieve.

We believe in being open minded approach when it comes to training a dog. We are happy for you to use toys, treats or other alternative methods to help your dog to learn. Infact sometimes these are better methods to use to begin with.

Our instructors have had experience with a range of breeds, temperments and ages of dogs. Please feel free to talk to any of them for advice.

We are strong believers that socialisation plays a bit part of a dogs training. It is an ongoing part of training your dog throughout his/her life, and various ways of incorporating this are included in every session Shires K9 Club runs.
